Haven't watched this series but man do I love Snapdragon... just not how they're written. They're the best character in my opinion but that's primarily because the bar is so low and he's one of the few(from the videos I've seen at least) who actually had some potential. I think it could have been more interesting if the teacher guy talked to him about trans magic just for Snapdragon to get even more mad and feel even less understood since now even a teacher is questioning his manhood, immediately calling out that even though the teacher claims to know what is like to have their identity questioned he is STILL giving the same exact treatment to Snapdragon. Sure you can have Snapdragon be trans-fem but from what I've heard the ONLY evidence there is of this fact is how Snapdragon happens to dress up. Either make them NOT trans and explore the idea of the teacher having to realize one can break gender roles AND still be a boy, or ACTUALLY HAVE SNAPDRAGON GO THROUGH A TRANS EXPERIENCE INSTEAD OF CALLING THEM A GIRL FOR DRESSING UP AS A MERMAID.

high schooler who wants to maybe write in the future here, just wanna thank you for making these videos. Usually while watching video critics I get a small sense of dread because how am I supposed to make something good if literal adults and whole teams of people can screw up so badly. But you present it in a way that makes it so obvious what the most important lesson of writing is: actually, plan it out!!! Thanks for that because it made me realize the reason I struggle to write despite wanting to, lack of motivation, and 90% of show screw-ups, is because I don't plan it first. Also, it's funny so I can watch these to ironically give me motivation to write instead of being scared of it.

If they wanted to go the route of her being "not" the real villain, the Agatha reveal should have involved Agatha manipulating Wanda somehow that led to her making the hex. Otherwise they could have double down that she's a villain and the DSMOM arc would have made more sense. I mean I still think it makes sense but would have been more consistent.

The opening example is meaningless to anyone who's never had to explain their state of being to someone else lmao. Not even trans but as someone with an invisible physical disability I feel that. No matter how much you show rather than tell eventually the words need to be said so the audience can say oooh and move on. They would have to devote a lot more screen time to that character to lead the audience into that conclusion naturally, abruptly showing information that isn't super relevant isn't any different than exposing it with a throwaway line of dialogue. Not saying the writing in this show is great, idk tbh, but I love that everyone always focuses on this one scene. It was originally a highlight of criticism because being trans was objectionable to anime fans, and I feel like it's been further dragged down the road by exactly the group you point out - "anyone who's watched a writing tips video on RUclips" LOL. Because harping on the basic rule of show don't tell is exactly the kind of thing I'd expect to find in a lily orchard quality writing tips video. Watching some tips on RUclips makes people think they know everything about the balancing act that is showing and telling in writing, and having to decide what is worth taking the time to carefully set up and what can be gotten out of the way with an easy throwaway line. And in my personal opinion, the transgender reveal was the latter. You said there were tons of examples of bad writing but you still started off with the overbeaten low hanging dead horse. If the issue is truly the writing and not the word transgender then it wouldn't be brought up first and foremost in almost every criticism of the show... The rest just feels like a shield for that point even when a good point is made.

Wait what about season 3?

A small hex around her home could have made a better story. They could have gone back and forth between what looks like a happy place where wanda os isolated and the people who care about her who appear to be in a grey depressing landscape after the snap. The show could show over time that she is really in denial and creating a delusion while staying locked home alone amd refusing to interact with her friends and outside world living only in her fantasy. It would be so much harder for them to get through to her that way. Imagine Steve and Clint trying to bring her out of it.

I honestly didn't mind Hawkeye, it's the best kind of Average. Wandavision I never really cared for.

80s cartoons did not have likeable characters or good writing. Most of the time the characters are completely forgettable, the dialogue is incredibly clunky, and a lot of stuff is incredibly contrived. Not to mention that a lot of them have really bad voice acting.

With the portals thing, they could've just made it so that portals only work when you combine old and new magic, which is extremely difficult.

My biggest question after the finale was what were they charging the director with to have him arrest? Shooting at fake people? Trying to take down a villain and save a town? Trying to revive a robotic superhero?
